CPT can now add information to the initial notification of changes to the German Tempo 100 system. Coaches first registered from 1 January 2008 can only be approved to travel at 100km/h in Germany if:-
* The body is approved to directive 2001/85/EC. This is the challenge as many coaches are currently approved to national regulations.
* All seats are equipped with belts. Seat belts at all positions became mandatory for coaches first used on or after 1 October 2001.
* There is a speed limiter set to a maximum speed of 100 km/h (already required).
* The front steering axle must not be equipped with regrooved tyres. If tyres are regrooved, they should be moved to the rear axle or utilised for non-German journeys. CPT also assumes that remould tyres are not permitted on the front axle.
* The vehicle must be subject to a roadworthiness test to directive 96/96/EC.
We understand the current annual test conducted by VOSA is adequate.
New vehicles which cannot comply with the above technical requirements are restricted to the national speed limit of 80km/h when travelling throughout Germany. CPT understands that vehicles already approved to Tempo 100 and with a valid certificate will not be affected. CPT will inform Members as new information becomes available.
