National Chairman

Campbell W.R. Tudhope, FIMI, MInstTA, MSOE(MIRTE), CAE, Eng Tech.

DSCF4612

Campbell joined the institute on the 20th April, 1994, and has been a member of the Inverness branch since that date. He took over as National Chairman in 2015.

He was born and grew up in the Highlands of Scotland, initially attending Lochaber High School, and then moving to Fort Augustus Abbey School.

At sixteen he left Fort Augustus Abbey School and took up an apprenticeship with Scottish Motor Traction (SMT) a Vauxhall dealership. Two years later he went full time at Inverness College, after which he returned to the motor industry working for Edgar’s Auto Services.

At twenty-one the draw of education took him back to Stevenson College, Edinburgh, where he studied “Automotive Engineering Management”, after which he worked as a Manager with Ladbrokes, and then Kwik-Fit.

In 2000 an advert in a Trade Magazine took him back into education and a career-change into teaching, graduating in 2001 from Bolton Institute with his Certificate in Education.

Moving on to his first teaching position at Farnborough College of Technology in Hampshire, he studied at Surrey University (at night school), and graduated with an Honours Degree in 2006. After six years the same Trade Magazine (as in 2000) took him to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to teach for Dubai Municipality. The contract ended unexpectedly, and he returned to the Scottish Highlands.

An opportunity came to teach at North Lindsey College in Lincolnshire, where he is at present, and where he has also achieved the position as a “College Governor”.

Campbell believes education and training needs to be at the heart of the motor and transport industry – we all need to embrace education to support us for the challenging years to come.

To relax – you will find him with friends from “Hull Bus Restorers”, restoring buses and taking them to bus and coach shows. He also has a model bus collection of unknown quantity – some things are best unknown!
