Forth Road Bridge

The good news & the bad news

After 43 years the tolls on the bridge are likely to be removed sometime early in the New Year. Royal Ascent has been given to the Abolition of Tolls Bill and now it up to the Scottish Government to conclude its deliberations and finally vote for the abolition. If this is done before the end of the year then tolls will cease early in February 2008

The bad news is that in 2009 and 2010 major work will have to be carried out to renew the expansion joints. This means that it is proposed that between April & June 2009 one carriageway will be closed necessitating a contra-flow on the other carriageway. The period when this work is to be carried out has been chosen to cause the least disruption but will still cause massive tail-backs at peak times. Be Warned.
