Adrian Gettins FInstTA 1954-2013

It is with great regret that we have to advise the passing of Adrian Gettins FInstTA after a long illness.

Adrian is a past National Chairman who has given many years of service to the Institute both nationally and locally.

He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues and friends in IoTA and our deepest sympathies go to his wife, Janet,

and his children and grandchildren.

New Senior Traffic Commissioner appointed

Beverley Bell has been appointed Senior Traffic Commissioner for the next four years. She took up post on 1st June.

Beverley has been Acting Senior Traffic Commissioner since Philip Brown’s retirement last October, and becomes only the second Senior Traffic Commissioner appointed following the changes in the Local Transport Act 2008 that gave the post-holder new responsibilities to determine how the traffic commissioners perform their statutory functions.

Note: IoTA is proud that Beverley is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute and a member of our Lancashire Centre. We offer her our congratulations on her new appointment.

The air ambulance service is funded by charitable donations!

It seems unbelievable that flying off on holiday is not subject to fuel duty, but flying to hospital in an emergency is!

Subject: PETITION RE AIR AMBULANCE FUEL DUTY

Hi, Please may I bring to your attention a petition to encourage the Government to exempt Air Ambulance services from duty on the fuel they use, in the same way as the Lifeboats (RNLI) are exempt. If we gain 100,000 signatures, Parliament is duty bound to debate the issue - currently we have over 15,000 signatures.

Thank you for your support for this magnificent volunteer funded service.
