DfT started a research project in February 2021 aimed at developing novel technologies to:
measure brake and tyre wear emissions from road vehicles in real driving conditions – phase 1
address the knowledge gaps in how these emissions are generated – phase 2
This study is a first of its kind for the novelty of the on-road measurement approach, which is more representative of real-world emissions compared with laboratory-based methods.
Overall, this study will provide evidence and build our confidence in understanding these emissions better, and how to control them through policy and legislation.
