FORK LIFT TRUCK LPG RISK

14 Dec 2023

The HSE has issued a Safety Notice relating to the use of LPG powered forklift trucks following issues operators in north east are experiencing with supply, and has advised actions that operators should take before starting their forklift trucks to limit the risks associated with their use.  The issue does not appear to affect operators in the south of England.

Operators may be able to get compensated for the financial losses caused as a result of the supply of faulty LPG and we would advise operators to contact their fuel suppliers to discuss a resolution to the problems they are facing. We would advise operators to keep the following to support any claim they may make:

•            Invoices/receipts for purchase of LPG;

•            Any terms and conditions in place between you and your supplier;

•            Detailed records of issues with forklift trucks;

•            Evidence of any call outs;

•            Invoices/receipts for repair costs;

•            Invoices/receipts for any hire vehicles you have had to use to replace affected forklift trucks;

•            Copies of correspondence with your fuel supplier/records of any telephone conversations.
