Future skills needs report - across the transport sector

This independent report provides an analysis of the future transport workforce and skills needs.  Outlining future skills needs across the UK’s transport sector, it also examines the sector’s challenges, which include demographic trends, the impacts of new technologies and the transition to net zero.

It identifies actions for the sector to consider, including:

  • upgrading sector level workforce and skills data
  • undertaking coordinated and high-quality sector attraction
  • increasing collaboration between transport modes
  • encouraging apprenticeships
  • promoting investment in environmentally-conscious (green) jobs and digital skills

The National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR) produced this independent report for the Department for Transport (DfT). The analysis and findings of this report represent the views of NSAR, not those of DfT.
