GB type-approval scheme proposal for road vehicles - Consultation

10 Jun 2022

Consultation closes at 11:45pm on 29 June 2022

Proposes creating a type-approval scheme to replace the existing interim measures, for new passenger and goods road vehicles to be sold in Great Britain, their components and trailers.

Consultation description

Seeks views on proposals to create a vehicle type approval scheme for Great Britain. This will be a newly established and permanent replacement to the existing interim scheme that came into force at the end of the transition period with the EU.

The scheme proposes to:

  • be the basis for future changes to technical requirements to enable innovation, such as increased vehicle automation
  • extend the existing scheme for road vehicles, motorcycles and tractors to allow for an orderly transition to the full scheme
  • apply the interim scheme to components, trailers and engines for machinery
