National Bus Strategy: Bus Service Improvement Plans

The National Bus Strategy sets out guidance for local authorities and bus operators on the vision to improve bus services in England, outside London.

Before the pandemic bus service quality varied greatly across the country, with government determining that the same high quality of services and information should be available to everyone.  There is no provision to return to services planned purely on a commercial basis the Strategy explains or with little or no engagement or support from LTAs.

The Bus Services Act 2017 provides the tools to deliver the high standard required and £3 billion in new support funding.
