New gritting vehicles for national highways

12 Nov 2022

National highways have assembled 252 gritting vehicles in a two year investment for operation on England’s motorways and A-roads.  Last year 144 vehicles were introduced with October this year seeing a final batch of 108 added at locations across the country.

The new gritters meet euro 6 standards, can travel at a maximum speed of 50mph when salt spreading and have on board functions allowing routes to be uploaded directly into the cockpit which assist drivers with information on where and when to salt.

National highways have more than 530 gritting vehicles available for use across the network in sub zero temperatures
