NUMBER PLATES - AFTER THE TRANSITION PERIOD ENDS

11 Dec 2020

DVLA has advised that from 1 January 2021 it will no longer be permissible to fix a new number plate displaying a Euro symbol to a vehicle.  Existing number plates already fixed to vehicles are unaffected.

DVLA will also be introducing a new British Standard for the technical standards for new number plates made after 1 September 2021, and further details will be made available early next year

It should also be remembered that from 1 January 2021 number plates with the EU symbol may also no longer be an acceptable indication of the country of registration as required by the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic within the EU, and an appropriate GB sign may be required instead.

conversations with DVLA produced advice that there is no information displayed on the DVLA website as this has not yet been updated. further information will be shared as soon as it is available.
