Revised tyre management guide released by the British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association

3 Dec 2020

A comprehensive update of the tyre management guide for heavy commercial vehicles containing information for maintaining roadworthiness and the new tyre age regulations has been released by the BTMAUK.

The comprehensive revision was developed in collaboration with a working group consisting of the DVSA, RHA, Logistics UK, ITMA and CPT. The foreword from Traffic Commissioners, Kevin Rooney and Sarah Bell, highlights the importance of tyre maintenance and checks together with a reminder of the legal responsibility operators (and drivers) have for maintaining vehicles and trailers in a fit and serviceable condition.

The duty of drivers to check that the tyres on vehicles they use are fit for purpose is included in the guidance, with a five point check list for a visual inspection being included as an additional downloadable sheet.
