The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles has been updated

DVSA has launched a new edition of The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles.  

The book, which is published by TSO, is available from today (18 March 2026). 

The guide is filled with expert advice to help heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers and instructors stay safe while on the road. It includes: 

  • information on the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification and the national standard for driving lorries, including 10 practice Driver CPC case studies 
  • hints and tips for a lifetime of safe driving 
  • updated first aid advice, including information on using defibrillators
