Vehicle operator maintenance investigations

13 May 2023

The DVSA carries out maintenance investigations of vehicle operator licence holders in England, Wales and Scotland to check if suitable systems, facilities and arrangements are in place.

The guidance providing details of the questions, including the question requirements and assessment criteria, used during the investigation is updated.  There may also be additional instructions and further information for each question.

The guidance contains 14 question sections, and outcome guidance.  Current updates include:

  • Inspection reports
  • Associated inspection reports i.e. brake test and retorque records
  • Safety recall checks
  • Tyre management systems
  • Site security
  • Vehicle security procedures

DVSA may report the outcome of a maintenance investigation to the Traffic Commissioners for Great Britain.
