Section 19 standard or large bus permit updated application form

22 Nov 2022

The application form for a section 19 standard or large bus has been updated to remove the requirement to provide a contract with a maintenance provider and provide more clarity to questions.

Organisations that provide passenger transport exclusively for ‘non-commercial’ purposes or which have a main occupation other than that of a road passenger transport operator can apply for permits under Section 19 of the Transport Act 1985.

Permits allow the holder to operate transport services for hire or reward without the need for a full public service vehicle (PSV) operator’s licence, provided the services are carried out without a view to profit nor incidentally to an activity that is itself carried on with a view to profit.

Permit holders have a responsibility to make sure that services are operated within the law, with vehicles properly maintained and using drivers with the appropriate qualifications.
