German Border Checks

17 Sep 2024

Germany has ordered the temporary reintroduction of border control at land borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark for six months, with measures implemented from Monday 16 September 2024.

A complete package of stationary and mobile border policing measures, including the possibility to refuse entry at the border, will be applied at all of Germany’s land borders as allowed by EU and national law. This means that all of Germany’s borders will, possibly, be subject to control measures.

Checks are already in place at Germany’s land border with Austria (currently in place until 11 November 2024), and authority to conduct checks at the land borders with Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic (in force until 15 December 2024). These dates will be aligned with the aforementioned measures being put in place for the next six months.
