PSV manufacturer Wrightbus has unveiled its most advanced battery electric bus to date, incorporating a proprietary battery developed through a multi-million-pound internal programme.
The Generation 2 Electroliner demonstrates enhanced efficiency compared to previous models. Wrightbus highlights notable advancements in range, charging speed, battery longevity, HVAC systems, and warranty as key attributes of the new Electroliner.
Over 900 units have already been pre-sold, with customers projected to achieve an 11 per cent reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO).
Wrightbus anticipates that 1,100 of these buses will be operational by the end of next year, encompassing both single-deck Electroliner Kite and double-deck StreetDeck variants.
The second-generation Electroliner StreetDeck offers an estimated range of 275 miles and can be charged in approximately 1¼ hours at 380kW. The single-deck Kite model provides either a 300-mile range with a 442kWh battery, or a 365-mile range with a 528kWh battery, with corresponding charge times of 1¼ hours and 1½ hours.
Additionally, the integration of the Voith VEDS1.5 Driveline produces further improvements in efficiency and well-to-wheel greenhouse gas reductions. The upgraded HVAC system, featuring battery thermal management and reversible heat pumps, complies with Transport for London’s v2.5 and v2.6 requirements.
With respect to safety, the new buses offer considerable enhancements in thermal stability, meeting GB38032-2020 standards and ensuring protection against fire or explosion in the event of thermal runaway.
According to Wrightbus, operating costs are up to 70 per cent lower than those of diesel vehicles. The company estimates that it will secure a 38 per cent market share in the UK and Ireland by the end of 2026.
